Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 November 2026. This policy covers the Umucyo website (umucyo.org) and the Umucyo app for iPhone and Android, a sign-language learning platform of the Rwanda National Association of Deaf Women (RNADW), built and run with Iraady Ltd, Kigali. Contact: [email protected].
What we collect
- Account: your name, email address, role (learner, teacher or interpreter) and a hashed password.
- Learning: the courses you join, lessons and quizzes you finish, test results, grades, teacher feedback and certificates.
- Videos you send: assignment videos of you signing, which your teacher watches to grade you.
- Dictionary: the signs you mark as favourites.
- Payments: for paid courses or sessions, the amount, method (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money or card), phone number and the payment provider's reference. Card numbers go to the provider, not to us.
- Live classes: bookings, chat messages in a session, ratings. Video and sound in live classes go between the people in the call. A host can save a recording of a session only if you agreed to recording when you booked it.
- Technical logs: server logs (time, address, page) kept for security and fixing errors.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, no analytics or ad SDKs in the app.
- We do not sell or share your data. Teachers see the work of learners in their own courses only.
- The camera and microphone are used only when you record an assignment or join a live class. The app does not use your location or contacts.
How long we keep it
Your account and learning record stay until you delete your account. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires for accounting, without your phone number after deletion.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed. In the app, your sign-in is kept in the phone's secure storage. Videos are only shown through short-lived links to signed-in people allowed to see them.
Your choices
- Delete your account: in the app under Me → Settings → Delete account, or on the web at umucyo.org/delete-account. This removes your learning record, videos, favourites, notifications and certificates.
- Ask for a copy of your data or ask anything: [email protected].
Children
Learners under 13 should use Umucyo with a parent, guardian or school.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date above.
